Entrance Exam

Admission to PRCS from kindergarten to 12th grade involves an individual testing process for each child. For students entering kindergarten to 1st grade, a teacher at PRCS will evaluate their reading and English conversational abilities, as well as basic skills relevant to the applied grade level. Students in grades 2nd to 12th grade will be evaluated by a PRCS teacher in reading, English conversational skills, and math. Additionally, they will undergo an interview with the teacher or principal as part of the assessment process.

To initiate this process, please call the PRCS office to request an appointment. Please note that there is a non-refundable testing fee due at the time of testing. On the day of the entrance exam, you are required to submit the following documents to the PRCS office:

  1. Official transcript – sealed in an official school envelope and with the school stamp

  2. Teacher Recommendation Form (provided by PRCS office)

  3. Certificate of Good Financial Standing Form (provided by PRCS office)

Registration fee must be paid within a week of notification of passing the test, or space may be given to the next applicant. Should you have any questions or require additional clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Criteria

  1. Admission will be granted in the following order:

    • Current students, brothers and sisters of current students, children of PRCS staff members.

    • Former students with excellent records of parent and student cooperation, conduct, and grades.

    • Children and siblings of former students. (Please notify PRCS of interest prior to the pre-registration meeting for new students when all spaces are filled.)

  2. Other students are given an opportunity for entrance when spaces are available, by turn in the order indicated on the official list made at PRCS Open House and on the waiting list. Admission is subject to passing the entrance exam and compliance with all other requirements. PRCS may open registration prior to Open House without notice if the school at its sole discretion determines this to be necessary.

  3. Enrollment is generally limited to 20-22 students per class.

  4. New and former students for kindergarten through high school must pass an individual test of basic skills including math, English, reading, and Spanish and will be interviewed by the teacher. The student must perform well enough on the test that the examining teacher and the Principal feel he or she can successfully handle the class work required at his grade level in PRCS in English, also taking into consideration previous grades and information provided by the student and parent.

  5. PRCS reserves the right to deny admission to (or expel) any student for any of the following reasons:

    • If the child’s parents refuse to accept or fail to comply with school regulations and policies for students and parents, including traffic and discipline regulations.

    • If PRCS feels we are not able to adequately meet the educational, language, emotional, physical, or spiritual needs of the child.

    • If PRCS feels that a different school placement would be better for the child.

    • If PRCS feels that the conduct, attitude, or physical or emotional status of the child would have a serious negative effect on present students, or would place an extreme undue burden on the school.

    • Failure to comply with requirements and criteria for admission.

    • Lack of legally required documentation: birth certificate, PVAC immunization record, court custody papers if applicable, etc.

    • If parents provide misleading or fraudulent information at the time of application, such as falsified grades, age, or medical information; cheating in registration process.

    • Poor conduct.

    • Considerable lack of parent cooperation with the school and its personnel.

    • Non-payment or overdue payments.

    • Puerto Rico Christian School reserves the right to exclude any student permanently or temporarily at any time if at its sole discretion such action is deemed advisable either in the interest of the student or for the good of the school.

  6. Parents must agree that all students will attend and participate fully in daily Bible classes, and will encourage their children by word and example to apply at home the Biblical principles they have learned at school. Parent signature on the registration form signifies agreement.
